The course-wide rules for late work, extensions, academic integrity and getting help.

Policies and support

Brief timing

No brief in this course is released more than a few minutes before the session it belongs to. This is university policy, not an oversight: Parkinson’s law holds that work expands to fill the time available for it, so the course removes the time. A brief released early is a brief overthought. It also happens to be authentic assessment — a real client sends the brief at 4:55pm on a Friday, and the earlier you get comfortable with that, the better client you become.

Late work

There isn’t a late-work form. If you miss a deadline, email your tutor a bullshit answer for whatever you would have submitted. If they buy it, you get the marks. If they don’t, you get the mark you’d have gotten for submitting nothing, which is what missing the deadline already was. This isn’t a workaround for the assessment; it’s the assessment, run one email later than usual.

Extensions

Available for the usual reasons, on the usual university terms, through the usual university process. Nothing about this course changes how extensions work elsewhere; ask early, ask your convenor, and don’t wait for the brief to show up before you flag that you’ll need one.

Academic integrity

Submit your own bullshit. Presenting someone else’s bullshit as your own is still plagiarism, no matter how confidently it’s delivered — the course marks the performance of thinking on your feet, and that performance has to be yours. Using an LLM to help you generate an answer is explicitly in scope for weeks 4 and 5; passing off an LLM’s answer as an oral performance you could actually give live is not, and the midsem and final orals are built to notice the difference.

The one rule that isn’t a bit

The number one thing is to follow the rubric and brief in full.

Getting help

Office hours are listed on each tutor’s profile. If something in a brief is genuinely unclear — as opposed to deliberately open-ended, which is most of it — ask before the session it’s due in, not after.
