Week 9 Studio: Making clinic
A hands-on session on turning a redesign proposal into something you can actually build and test
26 April 2027
Before the session#
Read the week 9 lecture and bring your marked-up redesign proposal — the clinic is spent matching methods to your specific fix, not surveying methods in the abstract.
In the session#
Callum runs this one like the hardware clinic in week 3, but pointed forward: cardboard and foamcore mockups, laser-cut signage, small 3D-printed parts, and where a working model at reduced scale is more honest than a full-size one you don’t have the budget or time for. Everyone leaves having named the one part of their redesign that’s genuinely hard to prototype, rather than discovering it in week 10.
Afterwards#
Nothing submitted. Prototype build time starts next week.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- you can name at least two prototyping methods suited to your specific redesign
- you have identified which part of your redesign is hardest to prototype and why
- you leave with a materials and method plan for the build
