Whitcombe wrote the course’s current disengagement rule after an earlier version of the protocol left the call to the observer’s judgement in the moment — exactly the moment judgement is least reliable. He keeps the disengagement invocation log that prompted the rewrite, and still reviews it after every case clinic. He runs every on-campus case clinic and the week-3 warding unit, and is the person to ask when a form needs signing before a Friday practical.
