The course-wide rules for late work, extensions, academic integrity and getting help.

Policies and support

Late work and extensions

Field observations are scheduled around a specific window (a stairwell that behaves on Tuesdays is not guaranteed to behave on Thursdays), so case-clinic attendance is not extendable. Written deliverables — the Field Case File, the Comparative Literature Review, the Final Capstone — get a standard five-working-day extension for illness or misadventure, granted on request without needing to justify it further; ask before the deadline, not after.

Academic integrity

Case logs must be your own observation, corroborated by your buddy pair, not reconstructed from someone else’s account. Comparing classification calls with classmates after an observation is expected practice, not collusion — this course wants convergent classification, not independent invention. Submitting another observer’s log as your own is treated as fabrication of field data, this course’s most serious integrity matter.

Safety and disengagement

The disengagement rule from week 4 is not optional and is never overridden by a desire to finish an observation. If you invoke it, you have not failed the case clinic — you have followed the protocol correctly. Report every invocation to the Field Safety Officer regardless of outcome.

Getting help

Contact the Field Safety Officer for anything fieldwork-safety related, and the convenor for anything about classification, theory, or the written assessments. Both hold consultation hours; see the people page.
