Week 3: A Wheel That Fails on Purpose
Trolley geometry as a designed failure, and what a leash looks like when it has four wheels
8 March 2027
A trolley that tracked perfectly straight would let you leave the store as directly as you arrived. It doesn’t, and the drift isn’t a manufacturing defect — it’s engineered friction, just enough to keep a body moving past shelves it hadn’t planned to see.
Outline#
- the trolley as prosthesis: an extension of the shopper’s body, not a container for their goods
- wheel geometry and the basket-to-cart escalation
- containment dressed as convenience
