Week 12 Session: Presenting the intervention

A proposal defence clinic — talk through your draft with peers and a fictional review panel before the real submission deadline.

10 May 2027

Before the session

Fill in the proposal planning canvas below with your current final-project draft, even if incomplete.

Proposal planning canvas

FieldYour answer
Problem (specific site or road class)
Evidence — strand 1
Evidence — strand 2
Evidence — strand 3
Mechanism
Chosen intervention (one primary measure)
Implementation — jurisdiction
Implementation — approval pathway
Implementation — initial cost estimate, and its source
Implementation — ongoing cost estimate, and its source
Evaluation — process metric
Evaluation — outcome metric
Scope check — is this one measure, or a bundle?

The two cost fields may stay blank at this stage of the draft — but leave yourself a note on where you’ll get a real figure from, since your final submission needs an actual cost estimate and its source for your chosen jurisdiction, not the illustrative teaching figures from Week 7 or 12’s worked examples.

In the session — “The Proposal Defence Clinic”

A fictional review panel of Drs Quaye, Fenn, and Okafor sits in on this session in spirit — the feedback prompts below are the questions they would ask. For cohorts larger than roughly 12, run this in parallel small groups rather than one whole-class queue, so every proposal gets a real defence round within the time available.

StepTimeActivity
15 minRecap the six canvas fields and what a marker checks for at each.
230 minSmall-group defence rounds: each student walks their group through their canvas in about 3 minutes, using the feedback prompts below.
310 minPeer feedback: for each proposal, answer the four prompt questions and note the answers for the presenter.
45 minSubmit the Proposal Survival Checklist (see below).

Feedback prompt questions

  1. What’s the single intervention?
  2. Which three strands does it argue from?
  3. What’s the realistic cost and approval pathway?
  4. What would count as evidence it worked?

Proposal Survival Checklist (formative)

A short checklist noting which of the six canvas fields are solid, which need more work, and the single most useful piece of feedback you received. This is a formative output for this week’s activity — it adds no separate grade of its own.

Afterwards

This session and its feedback are formative only. Revise your written proposal based on what came up here, and submit it via the final project by the real deadline — 28 May 2027, 12:00 — which this session does not change or extend.
