Week 5 Session: Balance Sheet Clinic
Build a real cost-effectiveness ratio from provided cost and performance data, then argue for a rebalance using it — not a vibe.
22 March 2027
Before the session#
Read Week 5’s lecture on DPS-per-currency and EHP-per-currency ratios. No preparation beyond that — the data arrives in the session.
In the session#
Marcus provides cost and performance numbers for a small set of competing in-game options (which game they’re drawn from varies by year, so the data is provided fresh rather than reused). Build the ratio, write it out as a formula with the dataset’s own numbers substituted in rather than just the final value, find where it’s too flat or too peaked, and propose one specific numeric change.
- 10 minutes: introduce the dataset and the two ratios
- 30 minutes: build the ratios (as formulas, numbers substituted in) and draft a rebalance
- 10 minutes: share one proposed change with the room, stating the ratio’s value before and after it so the room can see how far the outlier moved
Afterwards#
Balance Patch Notes (due Week 6) is a fuller, individually-marked version of exactly this exercise.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- you construct a cost-effectiveness ratio from the provided data, shown as a formula, not just a final number
- your rebalance argument names the specific ratio value that changed and by how much
