The course-wide rules for late work, extensions, academic integrity and getting help.
Policies and support#
Late work and extensions#
Work submitted after its due date loses 5% of the available mark per day late, up to five days, after which it is not accepted without an extension. Extensions are granted for documented illness or other serious disruption — email the convenor before the deadline where possible, and as soon as you’re able to otherwise.
Data sources and citation#
Most assessments in this course ask you to work from real, published data about a real virtual economy (EVE Online’s Monthly Economic Reports, World of Warcraft’s Auction House, Old School RuneScape’s Grand Exchange, or a documented incident such as the Guiding Hand Social Club heist). Wherever a real source is involved — whether it’s the one an assessment names by default or a substitute you’ve agreed with the convenor — cite it by name and link in every submission. Using a data source without citing it, or presenting invented numbers as if they came from a real report, is treated as an academic integrity matter, not a formatting slip. The exception is an assessment built around a toy dataset provided in the session itself (Balance Patch Notes’ cost/performance figures, for instance) — there’s no real source to cite, because the exercise is testing the technique, not your ability to source data.
Use of AI tools#
You may use AI tools to help research, model, or draft your submissions, provided you declare that use and can explain and defend every number and claim in your own words. An assessment that cites a real economic incident or dataset is expected to be checkable against that source — “the model told me so” is not a substitute for a citation.
Getting help#
Questions about a brief or a spec belong on the course forum, where everyone benefits from the answer. For anything personal — extensions, wellbeing, accessibility — email the convenor directly; contact details are on the people page.
