A9

The four-tier beat-sheet-and-storyboard ladder for one short sequence, including its three-second hook.

Week 9 · Due 7 May 2027 · 3%

A beat is a state worth showing, not a feeling worth describing.

What to do

Turn one premise into all four ladder tiers from this week’s exercise for the same two-to-three shot sequence: a prose paragraph, a beat sheet written in states, a beat sheet with a sized shot list, and a boarded version with keyframes tagged to their references. The sequence’s opening beat is its three-second hook, using one of the four hook devices on purpose.

What to submit

All four tiers for the same sequence, with the hook device named for the opening beat and a reference or master plate tagged to every entry on the shot list.

How it’s assessed

Beat sheet quality checks that every beat is written as a state rather than a transition — something a shot could actually show, not a feeling about how one moment turns into the next. Hook design checks whether the named device actually matches what the opening beat does, not just that one was named. Shot list completeness checks that every entry carries both a size and a tagged reference, not composition alone.
