My site closed down in week 8

The cafe I have been counting since week 1 has shut for a refit. Six weeks of data and nowhere to stand.

Walked up on Monday and there is plywood over the window and a sign saying reopening in June.

I have six weeks of counts, a service time histogram and a fairly good idea of what Thursday lunchtime does to that counter.

What happens now? Do I start again somewhere else, or is there a version of this where the six weeks still count?

  1. Marked as the answer

Six weeks of data on a queue that no longer exists is still six weeks of data, and the policies page covers exactly this. Pick a second site now, carry the method across, and write the change up as a comparison rather than an apology. You are not starting again.

  2. Moved to the library loans desk. Completely different shape and I can already see it.

  3. For what it is worth, the refit itself is a queue decision somebody made. Who waits longer now that the cafe is shut is a question with an answer.
