Week 5 Case Review: The specificity test
Checking whether your case has crossed the line from fungible to specific provision, before you write it up for the position paper
22 March 2027
Before the session#
List what your case’s counterparty currently provides, then mark each item fungible (a substitute could deliver it about as well) or specific (a substitute couldn’t, without rebuilding years of shared context).
In the session#
The room checks each other’s fungible/specific splits for the classic error: mistaking recency for specificity. A provision someone hasn’t tested a substitute for isn’t automatically specific — it’s just untested.
Afterwards#
This split, plus the reliability rate from week 3 and the five dependency scores from week 4, is the raw material for the position paper due this week. Bring all three to the writing.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- you can list what your case provides that a plausible substitute could not replace at the same cost
- you can say whether that list is growing, shrinking, or steady
