Case Study Portfolio
A portfolio of three cases, each classified against the situationship failure modes and the four contract types, using the full model's terminology throughout
Due: 19 April 2027 · Weight: 35%
The brief#
Compile three cases, at least one of them stalled, and classify each against reciprocity, the commitment gate, and contract type.
Where the position paper asked for depth on one case, this portfolio asks for range across three. At least one case should be a genuinely stalled one, classified against one of the three named situationship failure modes (asymmetric-cost, sunk-specificity, silent-substitute) — a portfolio of three clean, uncomplicated cases doesn’t exercise the part of the model this assignment is checking.
The mechanics: three separate write-ups, each independently classified. A case that closed cleanly into a named contract type (Date, Exclusive, Official, Investment) is a valid inclusion and doesn’t need to be stalled to count — the requirement is that at least one of the three is.
What you submit#
A single PDF containing three case studies, 500–700 words each. Analytical depth (50%) is marked per case on whether the classification holds up under the evidence presented. Use of the model’s terminology (30%) checks that “attachment,” “dependency,” and “reciprocity” are used as the distinct, separately-measured variables the course defines them as, not as interchangeable synonyms for “closeness.” Writing (20%) covers clarity and structure across the three write-ups as a set.
The spec
The brief poses the problem and leaves room for a response. The spec is the fixed part: what a marker checks. Some lines can be checked mechanically; the rest call for judgement.
- submitted by the deadline, as a PDF, three cases of 500-700 words each
- each case is classified against reciprocity, commitment, situationship failure mode (or "gate closed cleanly," where that's the finding), and contract type
- at least one of the three cases is a stalled or situationship case, classified against one of the three named failure modes
