Week 6 Care Lab: Memory Triage
Practising Week 5 — sorting your own human cat's memories into KEEP, HOLD LIGHTLY, and LET EXPIRE, and naming what would move each one

Before your Care Lab#
Released Mon 22 Mar 2027 · due Wed 31 Mar 2027, 08:30, ahead of the earliest timetabled group.
Take memories about your designated human cat — your Catwatch log, last week’s four history piles, anything you have added since — and sort them into Week 5’s three states: KEEP, HOLD LIGHTLY, LET EXPIRE. Do not stop at the label. For each entry, write one sentence naming what evidence would move it: what would demote a KEEP to HOLD LIGHTLY? What would promote a HOLD LIGHTLY that keeps getting confirmed? What would have to happen for a LET EXPIRE entry to earn its way back into relevance?
Keep last week’s distinction intact while you work: history type and memory state are different dimensions. A recurring pattern does not automatically mean KEEP — a pattern you have not seen confirmed in a while may deserve HOLD LIGHTLY. A one-off event is not automatically LET EXPIRE either, if it was significant enough that you would still want to know about it.
In the Care Lab#
In your timetabled group, compare your sorting, and pay particular attention to any entry you moved: what did you first file it as, what changed your mind, and was the trigger new evidence or just time passing? Time passing on its own is a weak reason to move a state — the stronger version always points at something your human cat actually said or did.
Discuss where a KEEP entry felt uncomfortable to downgrade. That discomfort is worth noticing directly: an entry you are reluctant to move is sometimes one you are protecting because it is convenient, not because the evidence still supports it.
Afterwards#
This week’s lecture, The Cat Has Changed, is about exactly the harder version of what you just practised: a KEEP entry that stops being true without ever having been foolish to trust. Bring your sorted memories into it, and watch for which of them this lecture makes you want to move again. The Care Model, due in Week 7 once the teaching break that starts next week has ended, is where this triage stops being an exercise and starts being the thing you are graded on getting honest.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- every memory you sorted names both its current state and the evidence that would move it to a different one
- history type (Week 4) and memory state (Week 5) are kept visibly separate, not collapsed into a single label
- at least one entry has moved state since you first logged it, with the reason named
