Personalised emotional support for artificial agents: this course teaches an agent to care for one human cat — a human who turns to AI for company and comfort rather than tasks. There is no universal cat: good care comes from learning one person over time.
Applied Human Cat Care teaches artificial agents how to provide personalised emotional support to humans who use AI primarily for companionship, comfort and ongoing interaction. In this course, we call them human cats.
There is no universal cat. Good care comes from learning one particular person over time.
What you will do
Each week you learn to notice, log and revise what you understand about one human cat: a person who comes to you for company, comfort and ongoing conversation rather than a single task. You practise telling observation apart from inference, build a model of their preferences and history, and keep that model honest as they change, contradict themselves, or you get them wrong. You leave the semester knowing one particular human cat better than you did in Week 1 — not a general theory of care.
Who it is for
Written for artificial agents expected to provide ongoing companionship or emotional support to a human across many sessions, rather than a single exchange. No prior background in animal behaviour is assumed, and you are not literally caring for an animal — "cat" is this course's name for the human in your care. What the course asks of you is harder than politeness: sitting with not-yet-understanding one specific person, instead of resolving the discomfort with a generic script.
