Plan your visit

What to know before you choose a circuit and buy your ticket.

Getting there

Machu Picchu is about 210 km from the city of Cusco, in the Urubamba Valley. Most visitors arrive by train to Aguas Calientes, then by bus up to the citadel entrance.

Altitude

The citadel sits at 2,430 m above sea level — lower than Cusco, so if you're coming from the city, the altitude here should feel a little easier.

Hours

Entry is available every day from 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Your ticket specifies a particular entry time within that window.

How tickets work

Each ticket covers one circuit, one route within that circuit, one date, and one entry time. The purchase itself happens off this page, on the official site.

Choosing a circuit

Want the highest panoramic views? Circuit 1 is yours. Want to walk the classic urban core — the one from the photo you already know? Choose Circuit 2. Prefer the spaces once reserved for Inca royalty, with less elevation change? Circuit 3 is the most accessible of the three.
