Circuit 2 · Classic

The urban core you already know from photos

Two routes through the heart of Machu Picchu's urban sector: the agricultural terraces, the residences, and the spaces once used to observe the stars. It's the citadel's most recognisable walk, at medium-to-high effort.

Routes in this circuit

Classic Route2-A

Covers the main urban sectors: the agricultural terraces with the full view of the citadel, Llaqta Punku (the main entrance), the Temple of the Sun viewpoint, the Main Square, the Sacred Rock, and the water mirrors. This is where the classic Machu Picchu photo is taken.

Lower Terrace Route2-B

An alternate path to the same urban sector, passing the lower terrace and the quarry area where the stone for the citadel's buildings was cut, before reaching the Main Square, the Sacred Rock, and the water mirrors.
