Volunteer
Canberra REP runs entirely on volunteers, across ten areas. No experience is needed to start in most of them — experienced members are happy to train and assist newcomers. The best way to find out more is to come along to Happy Hour, in the Foyer on Friday evenings (except opening nights), and ask a REP member.
Acting
Audition for main-stage productions, smaller Studio shows, or rehearsed readings — casting calls are announced on the Auditions page, in the eNews, and on Facebook and Instagram.
Stage Management and Backstage Crew
Help run the show from behind the scenes, as backstage crew, an assistant stage manager, or a stage manager.
Set Design
Design a working set — REP is one of the few companies that builds its own for every production — mentored by an experienced set coordinator if you're new to it.
Set Construction, Painting and Bump-in/out
Build, paint and move sets in and out; if you can wield a hammer or a paintbrush you're welcome, and if you can't, this is where you learn.
Properties
Find, make, borrow, hire or buy everything that appears on stage, and look after it for the run.
Lighting/Sound Design and Operation
Design, rig and operate lighting or sound; it's specialised, but trainee opportunities come up on productions.
Wardrobe
Design, make and maintain costumes — anything from simple sewing to expert dressmaking is welcome — and help with the Wardrobe collection and its Retro Clothing sales.
Hairdressing/Makeup
Style hair and makeup for the shows that need more than what the cast can do themselves.
Front of House
Be the audience's first point of contact: run the bar, usher, sell tickets or programs, or manage Front of House — training is provided.
General Maintenance
Help keep the theatre building and its fixtures in good repair at regular working bees, run by the Technical Committee.
Membership
Membership is a separate way to support Canberra REP, on top of volunteering. Members get:
- Member-price tickets to REP productions, at $38 instead of the standard $50.
- One additional ticket per show, for a friend, at the same member price.
- Member-price tickets to REP Studio workshops and events, at $15 instead of the standard $50.
- Discounted drinks at Happy Hour, socialising in the Foyer with other theatre-lovers every Friday evening (except opening nights).

How to join
There's no online option: download the membership form from Canberra REP's Membership page, print it, and post it or bring it in person to the office along with payment.
If you're under 30
Membership does not make your tickets cheaper. Member tickets are $38, but Under 30s tickets are already $25 — cheaper than the member price. Under 30s tickets need proof of age and are only available at the door.
