About the club
ANU Mountaineering Club (ANUMC) is a student-run club affiliated with the ANU Students' Association. We organise climbing, hiking, canyoning and mountaineering trips for ANU students year-round, and we run gear hire so members don't need to own equipment before they know if a sport is for them.
How the club runs
A student committee, elected each year, organises the trip calendar, runs the gear store and manages membership. Trips are led by members who hold a qualification or enough logged experience for that trip's grade — new leaders are mentored on easier trips before leading harder ones.
Membership is open to any ANU student and covers discounted trip fees and gear hire rates for the year. You don't need to be a member to come on a first trip — try one, then decide.
What we run
- Rock climbing
- Top-rope and lead climbing day trips at Booroomba Rocks and further afield, from first-time top-roping to multi-pitch leading.
- Bushwalking
- Day and overnight hikes across Namadgi National Park and Kosciuszko National Park, graded by distance and terrain.
- Mountaineering
- Winter skills trips — snow travel, rope work and navigation — for members with prior hiking experience.
- Canyoning
- Warm-weather canyon trips in the Blue Mountains, run with members who hold canyoning-specific leadership experience.
