Welcome to Wally's Kanto Pokedex!
Hiya, trainer! Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the web. This site is my personal tribute to the original 151 Pokemon from the Kanto region — I've been catching 'em all since I got my copy of Red Version, and I built this page to share everything I've learned along the way. Sign the guestbook before you go!
A Very Short History of Pokemon
Pokemon (short for "Pocket Monsters") started life in Japan back in February 1996, when Game Freak released Pocket Monsters Red and Green for the original Game Boy. Nintendo brought the games west in 1998, and the anime debuted the same year, following a kid named Ash Ketchum and his Pikachu on their journey through Kanto.
By the time Pokemon Red and Blue launched in North America in 1998 (with Yellow following in 1999), the games had already become a worldwide phenomenon — trading cards, a movie, and a catchphrase every kid on the playground knew: Gotta catch 'em all!
Did you know? The name "Pokemon" is a Romanized contraction of the Japanese title Poketto Monsuta — literally "Pocket Monsters." The original games were designed by Satoshi Tajiri, who was inspired by his childhood hobby of collecting insects!
