Trebuchet

a small trebuchet mid-throw, counterweight arm swinging over, the sling releasing its load the kids' trebuchet, a scaled down build for demonstrations

Built a couple of these over the years. The counterweight ones throw further than you'd think for something made mostly out of scaffold poles and rope.

Cannon

the cannon, resting on its carriage in a paddock, barrel raised wadding being rammed down the barrel before loading the loaded breach, ready to fire

Black powder, a lot of paperwork, and a very particular kind of satisfaction.

Crossbow

the crossbow, cocked and ready on a bench

Quieter than the cannon, considerably less paperwork.

fighting

same words, same four real photos, same two genuinely broken links (trebuchet, crossbow) as the plain version — the difference here is entirely technique: nested tables for a real layout instead of one centered column, a table-cell drop shadow, a hit counter, a webring badge, and a marquee revival (the actual <marquee> tag is as dead as <blink> now, so this is css doing the scrolling). this is closer to what i could actually build once i'd been doing it a while — the plain version is closer to where i started.
