Trebuchet

a small trebuchet mid-throw, counterweight arm swinging over, the sling releasing its load the kids' trebuchet, a scaled down build for demonstrations

Built a couple of these over the years. The counterweight ones throw further than you'd think for something made mostly out of scaffold poles and rope. Never did get the release timing quite right on the big one. These two photos didn't survive whatever disk they were on — the links remember them, the files don't.

Cannon

the cannon, resting on its carriage in a paddock, barrel raised wadding being rammed down the barrel before loading the loaded breach, ready to fire

Black powder, a lot of paperwork, and a very particular kind of satisfaction. Loading it properly took longer than firing it.

Crossbow

the crossbow, cocked and ready on a bench

Quieter than the cannon, considerably less paperwork. Lived on the same "engine" pages as the cannon photos back when this was one big section rather than split out properly — this one didn't make it either.

fighting

a knight in full kit at the Holbrook list field, mid-bout with shield raised a fighter in armour, rattan sword and shield ready the same fighter, different pass a wider shot of the list field, fighters and tents

Rattan and armour, not the sharp stuff. Holbrook was one of the regular fighting weekends — these four photos are the ones that actually survived.

this is the actual setup, style and page that was running when I found these again — an actual relic, not a recreation.
