Snow Storm

Overview of a Red Alert mission map in the northern theatre, pale terrain cut by roads
A northern-theatre mission map — open ground, little cover

Snow Storm is the theatre command dreads assigning and field officers dread receiving. Somewhere north of the Soviet heartland, this frozen expanse punishes any commander who treats it like open ground — the cold is as much an opponent here as the enemy is.

Terrain

Snowfields stretch between clusters of pine forest and frozen rock outcrops, and the visibility is markedly worse than anywhere else in general rotation — fog and driving snow shorten sightlines and turn scouting into a matter of survival rather than convenience. Frozen lakes crust much of the map's low ground; they will bear infantry and light vehicles, but a Heavy Tank that strays onto thin ice finds itself at the bottom of very cold water. Know your ice before you drive on it.

Resources

Ore deposits here run thinner than on temperate maps, reflecting the poor soil, and are concentrated in a handful of sheltered valleys that double as natural chokepoints. Expect the early game to be a contest for those valleys rather than a straightforward buildup — whoever's economy stalls first in the cold rarely recovers.

Strategy notes

The Soviet Union's cold-weather doctrine and its Tesla-powered arsenal both perform well here: Tesla Troopers and Tesla Tanks are unbothered by the terrain, and the compressed sightlines suit an army that likes to spring ambushes from treelines. Allied commanders should lean on mobility and ranged firepower rather than committing armour to a frozen lake crossing, and should treat every patch of ice as a potential trap rather than a shortcut.

Above all, Snow Storm punishes overextension. Supply lines run longer in the cold, reinforcements arrive slower, and a force committed too far from its base can find itself cut off by weather alone. Commanders who win here tend to win by attrition, not by a single decisive strike.
