Skirmish — you, the AI, and a map

Not every engagement belongs to the official campaign record. A skirmish is a single, self-contained battle — one commander against an opponent of choice, fought on a single map, with no wider strategic narrative attached. It exists for training, for testing new tactics without risking a campaign's careful continuity, and for the simple honour of proving a point on the battlefield.

Structure

A skirmish engagement lets a commander choose the theatre, the opposing force's disposition, and the starting conditions freely — there is no fixed briefing to follow and no scripted objective beyond the standard goal of breaking the enemy's ability to fight on. This makes skirmish the preferred mode for officers looking to rehearse a new strategy against a specific map's terrain before committing to it in a real campaign mission or live engagement.

What sets it apart

Because nothing carries forward afterward — no unlocked units, no persistent losses — a skirmish is lower stakes than any campaign mission or live multiplayer battle. Field officers use this freedom to experiment: an all-Grenadier assault, a purely naval war on South America, a defence built entirely around static Tesla Coils. Whatever the outcome, the war continues unaffected once the engagement ends.

Command encourages every officer to spend time in skirmish before trusting new tactics to a real front — mistakes made here cost nothing but pride.
