Capture the Flag

A Red Alert engagement in progress, units converging on an objective
Capture the Flag — hold the objective

Some engagements are not won by annihilating the enemy at all. Capture the Flag tasks each side with locating and seizing the opposing force's flag and returning it to their own base, while simultaneously defending their own from the same fate — a contest of nerve, timing, and misdirection as much as outright firepower.

Structure

Each commander's flag is planted at their base from the outset, typically guarded by whatever defences the base has built up. Victory belongs to whichever side successfully steals the enemy's flag and carries it home first — a base can, in theory, lose every unit it owns and still win the engagement, provided its flag carrier makes it back. This inverts the usual logic of the war entirely: sometimes the correct move is to ignore an approaching army and focus everything on a single fast unit slipping through the back door.

What sets it apart

Speed and stealth often matter more here than raw armour — a Ranger or a lone fast vehicle darting past a distracted defence can decide the engagement faster than any Heavy Tank column. Base defence becomes correspondingly critical: a commander who commits their entire force to an offensive push may find their own flag gone by the time that push pays off.

Field officers describe Capture the Flag as the mode that most rewards a divided mind — half your attention on the attack, half on guarding what you cannot afford to lose.
