I always have at least three books going at once, which my partner calls
"a personality disorder" and I call "keeping my options open." Here's the
current rotation, updated by hand whenever I actually sit down and edit
this file instead of just thinking about it.
Gormenghast --- Mervyn Peake
Three hundred pages in and nothing has technically happened yet, and I
mean that as the highest compliment. The prose is so thick you could
stand a spoon in it. I read a chapter before bed and dream in stone
corridors afterward.
The Left Hand of Darkness --- Ursula K. Le Guin
A reread, because I remembered loving it at nineteen and wanted to know
if twenty-nine-year-old me would notice different things. She does. The
winter planet feels colder every time.
How to Read a Book --- Mortimer J. Adler
Reading a book about reading books, which is either the most on-brand
thing I own or a sign I need to touch grass. Probably both. It's making
me slower and more deliberate, which is annoying because I like being
fast.
If you want to know what happens to any of these once I finish them, check
the favorites page in a month or two --- that's
where the survivors end up.
