Webring & Further Reading
This shrine is small on purpose. These aren’t.
Everything on this shrine is a plain retelling, kept short enough to fit a handscroll’s worth of patience. For the real depth — better reproductions, more careful scholarship, the connoisseurship arguments this shrine only gestures at — follow the ring onward:
- Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains on Wikipedia — the fullest general account of the painting and its fire, in one place.
- Huang Gongwang on Wikipedia — more on the life sketched on the biography page here.
- Four Masters of the Yuan dynasty — the wider circle Huang Gongwang painted alongside, all working outside the Mongol court’s patronage.
- Handscroll — the format itself, and the arm’s-width viewing convention described on the scroll page.
- National Palace Museum, Taipei — home today to the longer piece, The Master Wuyong Scroll.
- Zhejiang Provincial Museum, Hangzhou — home today to the shorter piece, The Remaining Mountain, both described on the fire page.
