About Me

Hi again — I'm Ziming, a digital artist who splits most nights between a graphics tablet and way too many browser tabs of reference images. I've been drawing since I was a kid, but I only picked up digital tools a few years ago, and I'm still finding my footing between messy traditional habits and the clean precision the software wants from me.

My work moves between a few different modes: soft painterly portraits, blocky low-color pixel art, and the occasional vector piece when I want everything to sit still and behave. I'm drawn to limited palettes — the fewer colours I let myself use, the more I seem to actually finish a piece instead of endlessly tweaking it.

Most of what I make starts from a small, ordinary moment: a streetlight through fog, the way a cat sits when it's annoyed at you, a half-remembered dream. I'm not chasing realism so much as trying to get the feeling of a thing down before it slips away.

Outside of art, I like old web pages a little too much — hence the state of this site — retro synth music, and long walks with no particular destination. If any of this sounds like your kind of thing, have a look through the Gallery, or find more of what I'm into over on the Links page.
