Hiya, and thanks for dropping by! My name doesn't matter — what matters is that I love badminton, and this is my little corner of the web where I get to go on about it. I've been playing since high school, I still can't hit a jump smash to save my life, and I have opinions about shuttlecocks that nobody asked for. You're going to hear all of them.
What's a page like this even for?
This site is my shrine to the sport: what to play with, where to play it, and where to go if you want to test yourself against other Canberrans who also can't hit a jump smash. Use the links up top to get around — there's a page on rackets, a page on shuttles, a page for finding a court in Canberra, and a page on local competitions if you're feeling brave.
A very short history lesson
Badminton as we know it grew out of a 19th-century British parlour game called battledore and shuttlecock, picked up its modern net-and- court rules at a house called Badminton in Gloucestershire (yes, that's really where the name comes from), and has been an Olympic sport since 1992. It is, by a wide margin, the fastest racket sport in the world — competition shuttles have been recorded leaving the racket at over 400 km/h. And yet somehow I still can't get mine over the net half the time.
Grab a drink, have a click around, and if you see me at Lyneham on a Tuesday night, say hi.
