Ten Thousand Shrimp

an unofficial shrine to Qi Baishi (齐白石), 1864–1957

Guestbook

Every good shrine had a guestbook, and every good guestbook had entries nobody could quite verify. This one is no different — no submission form, because this shrine ships no JavaScript and no server, only paper. If you would like to leave an actual note, the honour system says email works fine.

found this looking for shrimp painting reference for my own sketchbook. did not expect a whole website. did not expect to read the whole thing either. 10/10 no notes

— a stranger with a sketchbook, somewhere

“between likeness and unlikeness” has been living in my head since I read the philosophy page. going to go ruin a perfectly good watercolour now trying to leave more out.

— someone who should finish their other paintings first

the visitor counter on the homepage is doing a lot of heavy lifting and I respect it completely.

— a fellow appreciator of fake precision

came for the shrimp, stayed for the CSS marquee. genuinely didn’t think anyone still knew how to fake one of these without an actual <marquee> tag.

— an old-web nostalgist

Want to leave your own entry? Since there is no form here, email one in and it’ll be added to this page by hand, the same way it would have been in 1999.
