P140ABOUT THIS SERVICE

About This Service

The Retro Games Service is one person's videotext page, kept running because nobody asked it to stop. It runs on plain pages, keyed in by number, because that's the whole point: a games site that behaves like an appliance instead of a feed, with nothing to load after the page has loaded.

There's no comment box on this service, because there was never a comment box on the real thing either. What follows is the closest equivalent this format has: a page of messages, sent in and set by hand, the way a viewer's letter used to get read out on air.

Viewer messages

“Finally someone ranked Tetris correctly. Ten out of ten was never in question.”

— a viewer in Canberra

“The Contra code still works on my emulator. Thirty lives, every time. Some things should never be patched.”

— a viewer who still owns the cartridge

“Add the Sega Saturn to the console page. It deserved better than it got.”

— a viewer with a grudge
