Three pieces of graded work, no examination, and each one built from what the one before it produced.

Three pieces of work, no examination, and nothing submitted twice.

They accumulate

The assessments are not three separate tasks that happen to be in the same course. Each is the same analytic move applied to a harder object, and each one is built out of something the previous one produced.

AssessmentWhat it asksBuilt from
Progress Bar Autopsyanalyse a waiting interface you did not buildnothing — this is where the method is learned
Waiting Interface Prototypeapply that analysis to your own interface, workingthe autopsy’s claim-and-source method, and the state model it made you infer
Honest Waiting Kitmake that interface survive failure, and account for every claim left on itthe prototype, its audit sheet’s failures, and the studio deliverables from weeks 10 and 11

Each brief says explicitly what it hands on and what it inherits. The criteria do not overlap: Behaviour across the four conditions is marked in Assignment 2 and never again; Behaviour under abnormal conditions is marked in Assignment 3 and not before it. A prototype that does not change between the two scores on neither.

What that means for feedback

Because nothing is resubmitted, feedback has somewhere to go. A correction to your reasoning in the autopsy lands on your own screen four weeks later, where the same reasoning is marked on something you built. A line your marker breaks on the Assignment 2 audit sheet is the first row of your Assignment 3 claims register.

How marks are earned above “it works”

Assignment 3 carries half the course, and its brief sets out the difference between meeting the requirement and arguing it well, criterion by criterion. The short version: the requirement is about the artefact, the argument is about the decision behind it.

The three

Progress Bar Autopsy

Take a waiting interface you did not build, list every claim it makes, and say what evidence each one could possibly have.

Due 12 March 2027 · Weight: 20%

Waiting Interface Prototype

The first half of the semester, shipped — a determinate bar, an honest estimate, an indeterminate case with no fractions, and an accessibility audit that records its failures.

Due 27 April 2027 · Weight: 30%

Honest Waiting Kit

The finished interface, plus the three documents that make it checkable — a state reference, an evaluation record, and a register of every claim left on screen.
