Week 5 Tutorial: Pricing a Saved Seat
Observing how the same seat-saving claim reads differently depending on how full the room is, ahead of Assignment 1.
24 August 2027
Activity#
Observe a busy café, library, or shared space at peak time and note every territorial claim to a seat or table that isn’t backed by someone actually sitting there right now — a jacket, a bag, a laptop left open.
Record your reaction#
Note how the same kind of claim reads differently in a mostly-empty room versus a packed one, and whether anyone actually contested it.
Reflection#
Using this week’s Bad manner / Good manner pair as a model, write your own one-paragraph case study of a claim you observed, stating what made it read as legitimate or not. This is good practice for the evidence Assignment 1 is due this week.
