Wait Log
One week of your own waits, measured three ways, and 500 words on where the three numbers disagreed.
Due: 5 March 2027 · Weight: 15%
The brief#
Log one week of your own waits over ten seconds. For each, record the clock duration, the felt duration, and what you were told while it happened.
The instrument is the one you build in the week 1 workshop. The third column is the one people leave blank, and it is the one this assignment is about. A wait where you were told nothing and a wait where you were told something are different waits, and your own numbers will show you that before any reading does.
Do not clean the data. A log with two entries you cannot explain is worth more than a tidy one, and the 500 words are where you say which entries those are.
What you submit#
The log, in any legible format, and 500 words. Name at least one wait where the clock duration and the felt duration moved in opposite directions, and say what was in the third column when that happened.
This tests the first clause of the thesis, that waiting is a designed component and not a failure. You are looking for the design in waits nobody ever described to you as designed.
The spec
The brief poses the problem and leaves room for a response. The spec is the fixed part: what a marker checks. Some lines can be checked mechanically; the rest call for judgement.
- a log covering seven consecutive days, with every wait over ten seconds in it
- clock duration, felt duration, and what you were told, for each entry
- 500 words identifying at least one wait where the three disagreed, and saying why
