Intervention
Redesign a wait you are not allowed to make shorter, and justify the technique you used and the person it acts on.

The brief#
Redesign a wait you are not allowed to make shorter.
The constraint is the assignment. Anyone can propose making it faster, and the proposal is usually somebody else’s budget. You work with the duration fixed, which leaves you the whole of the rest of this course and nothing else.
Say what makes it unshortenable: a regulatory hold, a physical process, a batch window, a queue with a fixed service rate. If you cannot name the constraint then you have chosen a wait that could simply be shortened, and you should choose again.
What you submit#
Before and after, at enough fidelity that someone could build the after. Then a justification that does two things. It names the technique you used from weeks 5 to 8, and it names the person that technique acts on.
The second half is the assignment. Every technique in this course works by managing somebody, and the ones that work best manage somebody who never agreed to it. Write down who that is for your intervention. A justification that cannot name them has not finished.
This tests the third clause, that who is made to wait, for how long, and what they are told, is never neutral. You are marked on whether you can hold that and design something anyway.
The spec
The brief poses the problem and leaves room for a response. The spec is the fixed part: what a marker checks. Some lines can be checked mechanically; the rest call for judgement.
- a wait you are not permitted to shorten, with the constraint stated
- before and after, in enough detail that someone could build the after
- a justification naming a technique from weeks 5 to 8, and the person it acts on
