Week 9 Lab: Sign-Off Risk, by Phase
An analytical lab — estimate certificate-of-occupancy risk-by-phase for a fictional build, justified against real punch-list categories
3 May 2027
Pairs. You’re given a fictional building at “98% complete” with a punch list of outstanding items across the categories week 9’s lecture and its linked Procore reference describe (life-safety, code-compliance, cosmetic). The job is to estimate, per category, how much occupancy risk remains — not a single blended percentage, since the lecture’s whole point is that a building department doesn’t grade on a slope.
Before the lab#
Read week 9’s lecture and the Procore reference it links before the lab — this lab is graded on using their categories, not inventing your own.
In the lab#
As a pair, sort the supplied punch list into the real categories, estimate which items block occupancy outright versus which are cosmetic, and identify the single highest-risk open item — the one that, if unresolved, keeps the certificate from being issued regardless of how finished everything else is.
Submitting#
The sorted punch list, the risk estimate per category, and the named highest-risk item, from the pair. Due Friday 7 May, 5pm.
Pairs of two.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- uses the real punch-list categories from the Procore reference linked on week 9's page, not invented categories
- treats occupancy as the binary gate the lecture argues it is, rather than smoothing it into a percentage
- the final recommendation states the single highest-risk open item, not just a risk score
