Ask during the week 7 session, or email when a question cannot wait until the next one.

Idris Fenn trained as a bench cutler before moving into teaching, and holds a Graduate Certificate in Applied Bladesmithing. His research interest is edge retention under repeated home use — how quickly a working edge degrades, and what maintenance schedule keeps sharpening a monthly task rather than a daily one. He treats the knife as the point at which preparation stops being theoretical: a blunt blade turns every later argument about timing into an argument about waiting.

He owns week 7, the most detailed week in the course, and holds a short consultation slot after that session for students still working through grip and edge angle. Questions about later weeks are better directed to the convenor.
