Week 4 Shift: Talk page

Your prediction meets reality, and you write the reply that either opens a conversation or ends one

Some of you were reverted within four minutes. One of you will not have been noticed at all, which is worse and we will talk about why.

Before the Shift#

Bring the outcome of your week 3 edit and your sealed prediction. If nothing has happened to your edit yet, bring that too — silence is a result.

In the Shift#

Open by marking your own prediction. Say what you expected, what happened, and what you had failed to understand about the community if those differ.

Then draft the reply. Ren will run the same exercise used on moderator applicants: you write it, someone else reads it cold and says what it made them feel, and you rewrite it until the gap between your intent and their reaction closes. Most first drafts read as aggrieved to everyone except their author.

Post it before you leave. A draft you take home is a draft you do not post.

Afterwards#

You are now in a conversation you do not control with someone who owes you nothing. That is the normal condition of this work, and the Conflict Autopsy due in week 6 asks you to look at somebody else going through it.
