Week 6: Midsemester Revision (Revising What, Exactly?)
Week 6 — revision reframed as re-prompting for an oral exam that rewards confident delivery over correct content
29 March 2027
Snyder’s account of the hidden curriculum is that students learn what assessment actually rewards, not what a syllabus claims to reward, and this course is not exempt from that. Revision, here, means rehearsing the performance rather than re-learning material — the midsem is oral, and an oral exam marks what you can say under pressure, not what you could look up given time.
Outline#
- what the midsem oral is actually testing, versus what the syllabus implies it’s testing
- rehearsing answers you don’t fully believe until they sound like ones you do
- handling a question you have no answer to, out loud, without going silent
- what to bring, and what not to bring, into the room
