Week 5 Studio: Copying a hand
A handwriting and signature forgery exercise, and a first live demonstration of stroke-dynamics analysis catching a fake in real time.
26 August 2027
Before the session#
Nothing to bring — handwriting samples are provided so nobody is copying their own hand by accident.
In the session#
Everyone attempts a close copy of a short provided handwriting sample, signature included, then compares their attempt against the original for the specific tell from this week’s lecture: does your version look slower and more careful than the original, even where the shapes match? Most people can feel this the moment it’s pointed out, which is exactly why forged signatures are among the easiest fakes to catch once someone knows to look for it.
Afterwards#
Keep both samples — your attempt is a useful comparison object if Assignment 1 or the final project touches text rather than image.
