Week 7 Crit: Peer review
A mock blind review round, and what changes about a note when the person who wrote it doesn't know who's reading.
5 April 2027
Bring#
A one-page proposal — for a project, a piece of work, anything with a claim in it worth arguing about — submitted to the room anonymously beforehand.
The crit#
You each get someone else’s anonymous proposal to review, in writing, before the room meets. Then we read reviews aloud without naming reviewers, and guess who wrote which one — usually easier than anyone expects, voice surviving the disguise more often than not. What holds is this week’s actual lecture point: anonymity was never disguise, it was permission to say the specific thing at all.
Leaves with#
A written review you’d be willing to sign, even though you didn’t have to.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- your review is written as if the author is unknown to you, even where you can guess who it is
- you can name one thing you wrote differently because the review was blind
