Marisol wrote restaurant and gallery reviews for a living before she convened this course, which is why the theory weeks keep returning to criticism as a published genre rather than to lecture-hall abstractions. She teaches every lecture and leads the crits on criticism-as-genre, receiving notes, and the portfolio.
Her one rule, repeated often enough that students start saying it back to her: a note that doesn’t name a specific line, frame or function isn’t a note, it’s a mood.
