Week 11 Session: The three-endings workshop
Writing three 50-word endings — good, bad and true — for your original boss's world, in item-description style
10 May 2027
Before the session#
Bring the boss and world you’ve been building since Week 2. If you’ve changed direction since then, bring whatever original setting you’re using for the Final Project.
In the session#
Write three 50-word endings for that world, in the same unreliable- testimony voice as your Week 2 item descriptions: a “good” one, a “bad” one, and a “true” one that isn’t just a midpoint between the other two. None should announce its own category — a reader should have to infer which is which from tone and consequence alone, the way weak guidance argues an NPC should never announce a destination outright.
We trade endings in the room; if a reader can immediately sort your three into good/bad/true without hesitation, the ambiguity hasn’t been earned yet.
Afterwards#
Keep the true ending in particular — it’s a strong candidate for the Final Project’s opening script to gesture toward, even briefly.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- none of your three endings states outright whether it is the good, bad or true one — that has to be inferable, not labelled
- your "true" ending is not simply a compromise between the other two
