Week 7 Session: The alternative-build workshop
Allocating 50 attribute points to a deliberately unconventional build and drafting the pitch copy that sells it
12 April 2027
Before the session#
Think of one stat, in any Souls-like’s system, that has a reputation for being weak or a trap. Bring it, plus a guess at why players call it that.
In the session#
Allocate a 50-point budget to a build centred on that “weak” stat, then draft the persona it implies: who plays this way, and why, in-world. Write a first pass at the pitch copy — 150-250 words aimed at a skeptical player — naming both what the build lets you do that a balanced build can’t, and the specific cost it accepts for that.
We read a few pitches aloud and the room calls out whether the cost named is real or hand-waved. A pitch that only lists upside hasn’t found the actual trade-off yet.
Afterwards#
Revise into your Loadout Pitch submission, due this week.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- your allocation names a specific stat most players would call a dead point, and builds the persona around spending heavily on it
- your draft pitch names the cost the build accepts, not just its payoff
