The brief

Every week, ~200 words on one concrete moment from something you played or watched that week — not a review, not a genre generality.

A Death Note is not “Dark Souls’ level design is really clever.” It’s the specific moment: the shortcut in Undead Burg you didn’t realise connected back to Firelink, the exact frame Lady Butterfly’s dive telegraphs on, the item description that made you distrust your own boss. If the entry could have been written by someone who hadn’t actually played that week, rewrite it until it couldn’t.

What you submit

Eleven entries, roughly 200 words each, one per teaching week — due at the start of the session it covers, not held back and bundled at the end. The best ten of eleven count toward the mark; the eleventh is a genuine free pass, not something to plan around, because a week you’re confident about still deserves the entry. A late entry scores zero for that week rather than losing a fraction — see Policies for what counts as late and how extensions work.

Where this goes next

Several of these entries end up being the fastest route into later briefs — the Boss Blueprint and Loadout Pitch both reward having already named a specific moment worth building on.

The spec

The brief poses the problem and leaves room for a response. The spec is the fixed part: what a marker checks. Some lines can be checked mechanically; the rest call for judgement.

How it is marked

Each entry is worth up to 2 points; the best 10 of 11 count toward the 20-point total. An entry outside that count still gets feedback, it just isn't scored.

What each tier looks like, per entry
TierDescriptor
2/2 — Full-health clearNames one specific moment from that week's material — not a genre generality — and it's visibly getting more specific as the semester goes on, not repeating the same kind of observation under a new title.
1/2 — Died once, adaptedNames a real moment, but restates that week's lecture or topic essay in different words rather than adding an observation the lecture didn't already make.
0/2 — You diedLate past the standard five-day extension described on the Policies page, missing, or reads as a genre generality a non-player could have written.
