Week 12 Session: The Exit
The receipt is the only document the store ever gives you back. Twelve weeks of argument end here, in a strip of paper that itemises everything except what just happened to you
10 May 2027
Before the session#
Keep a receipt from this week. Read it properly, for once, before you throw it out.
In the session#
We close the loop the door opened in week one. Eleven mechanisms — the route, the trolley, the shelf, the endcap, the perimeter, the queue, the checkout, the music, the card, the car park — and one receipt that accounts for none of them. This is the last session before the counter-mapping project, and it asks you to state, plainly, what the semester has actually argued.
Afterwards#
The final project is due at the end of the teaching period. Bring the whole semester’s inventory; you will need all of it.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- you can read your own last receipt and say what it doesn't itemise
- you can state the semester's argument in one sentence, without hedging
- you can say what a supermarket would have to change to no longer earn this course
