Week 6 Session: The Fresh Wall
Fresh food runs around the outside wall of every supermarket you've ever been in. Walk the whole perimeter and you've already walked the whole store — that's not a coincidence, it's the layout's real argument
29 March 2027
Before the session#
Recall the last store you were in. Try to draw its outer wall from memory before you draw anything else.
In the session#
The “fresh wall” — dairy, produce, bakery, meat, run around the building’s edge — forces a lap of the whole floor to reach any one of them. This is week two’s route argument, scaled up to the size of the whole building: the perimeter is not a shortcut, it is the longest reasonable path dressed as the natural one.
Afterwards#
This is the week the dérive report gets set. Read the brief before next session; you’ll want the whole semester’s inventory behind you when you write it.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- you can trace the perimeter of a real store from memory, aloud
- you can name what sits at the four points where the perimeter meets an aisle
- you can say how many aisles you'd cross if you only wanted the perimeter
