The three people who teach SLOP2710, and which of them to ask about what.
People#
Three of us, from three different directions into the same subject: operations research, airport ground operations, and emergency medicine.
We do not entirely agree, and the disagreement is on the timetable rather than hidden. In week 7 you will watch Adaeze argue that a queue’s ordering rule is where the distributive work happens, and Priya argue that the rule is only ever as good as the ninety-second human judgement feeding it. Neither of us expects to win. You are not required to pick a side, but by the final brief you will need to have noticed which one your own design depends on.
Who to ask. Tomáš takes the labs in weeks 1–5 and reads your raw counts. Priya takes weeks 6–12 and marks the simulation reports. Adaeze convenes, gives most of the lectures, and marks the final design brief.
Adaeze Nkemelu
Convenor
Course convenor. An operations researcher who got interested in queues by failing to fix one, and stayed for the economics.
Priya Raghunathan
Tutor
Tutor. An emergency physician who now studies triage as a design problem, and argues with the course convenor about it in public.
Tomáš Řehák
Tutor
Tutor. Fifteen years in airport ground operations, which is fifteen years of watching good queueing theory lose to the gate agent's discretion.
