Self-review

I led the ledger rewrite with Tom, which shipped in March and removed the class of double-posting bugs that caused two of last year’s P1s. I was on the call for all three incidents this quarter and wrote the post-mortems. I closed 36 tickets and merged 28 pull requests. I work 8 to 4 and I am offline on Tuesdays, which is a caring arrangement agreed with the previous manager; it means I miss the 4 pm sync and most of the division meetings, and I read the notes instead. I would like the ledger rewrite to be the thing this quarter is judged on.

Peer feedback

From Tom Okwuosa, nominated by Hannah. Hannah wrote the ledger. I did the storage half, she did the rest and the design, and she wrote all three post-mortems while the rest of us slept. She is the most senior engineer on this team in every sense except the one on the org chart.

From Marcus Bell, assigned. Hannah is never in the afternoon meetings and her status is grey by four. I am sure there is a reason. The ledger work seems significant. I have not seen much of her.

The announcement

Subject: Ledger rewrite is live
From: Hannah Byrne
To: payments-team

The ledger rewrite shipped this morning. Double-posting is no longer possible by construction. Thanks to Tom for the storage layer and to Grace for reviewing every one of the 28 pull requests. Post-mortems for the three incidents this quarter are linked below.
