File Your Own Notice

Write a deprecation notice, in the course's own four-part form, for an industry not already covered this semester

Due: 19 April 2027 · Weight: 35%

Pick an industry someone is genuinely pitching an AI system to replace, and write its deprecation notice — the same four parts this course has used all semester, in your own words, about a case you chose.

This is the first time you’re on the writing side of the seam instead of the reading side. The habit from the Weekly Audit Log runs in reverse here: you already know what a reader will check for, because you’ve spent six weeks checking it yourself.

What you submit

One notice, in the same four-part shape as every lecture this semester: sunset rationale and migration path (the pitch, in its own confident voice), breaking changes (economic and functional, always plain), and a rollback plan. 600–900 words total. A short note (2–3 sentences) naming your source for the industry you chose — a real pitch you’ve seen, heard, or read about — so a marker can check your breaking-changes section against something real.

Due the Monday directly after the mid-semester break, so bring an industry idea into week 6’s session and use the break to find your source.

The spec

The brief poses the problem and leaves room for a response. The spec is the fixed part: what a marker checks. Some lines can be checked mechanically; the rest call for judgement.
