About qBittorrent

The qBittorrent mascot, a small cartoon bird

qBittorrent is a BitTorrent client written in C++ on the Qt toolkit. Christophe Dumez started it in 2006 as a student project, with a deliberately narrow goal: a decent, native, advert-free alternative to the closed clients that were beginning to fill up with bundled software. It is now maintained by sledgehammer999 alongside contributors and translators scattered across the world.

It is released under the GNU General Public Licence, so anybody can read the source, build it, audit what it sends over the network, and fork it if the project ever stops serving them. For software that sits on your machine and talks to strangers on the internet, that auditability is the point — not a bonus feature.

How to find us

qBittorrent has no office and no support desk. It has maintainers who read these — pick the one that matches what you need.
